Spring Break Volunteering:
Each year, United Way of the Plains organizes Youth Days of Caring, a week of volunteer projects for teens over spring break. Last year, 274 students tackled over 600 projects at 36 local nonprofit agencies. This year, projects range from landscaping and animal care to organizing donations and assembling mailings.
Youth Days of Caring provides an opportunity for students to learn new skills, practice their leadership abilities, work together in groups and make a lasting impact. It is a great opportunity for young people to feel the joy in helping others while meeting new friends and learning about our community. We encourage students to give back this spring break, March 11-15. Projects are available for middle school and high school students (minimum age 12, depending on the project). Students can register online HERE until Tuesday, March 5.
ACHS will be hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on February 26 from 8:30-1:30 in the B Gym. Donor signups are at lunches through February 25 for any student 16 or older who fits the eligibility requirements. Please note that 16-year-olds who would like to donate need a parental permission slip signed. People can also sign up to donate online through the Red Cross.
Girls Soccer Apparel can be purchased HERE. Orders can be placed through March 4th.
Detention: There will be no more options to serve detention outside of the regularly scheduled time slots. You may serve detention in 30 minute increments either before or after school from 6:50-7:50 am or 3:05-4:05pm and on select Saturday mornings. (please see the office for choices)
2019-2020 Course Enrollment Information: *All enrollment information will be sent out in the Counselor's Corner monthly newsletter. Please check your email. All information is also available on our website (HERE). There will not be any parent presentations for current high school students. All presentations are available on our website to view along with may handouts and resources. Students will be watching the enrollment videos during seminar time on Wednesday. Once you have reviewed the information available, if you still have questions, please contact your counselor. Students will have until February 22 to enroll in their courses through their Powerschool account. We highly encourage parents and students to review all of the information together.
Notes from the Nurse: We are starting to see cases of the flu ramp up in our area. If your student has symptoms of the flu, please keep them home from school until fever and or vomiting have subsided for 24 hours per our district policy. Some of the signs of flu are high fever 100 degree or greater, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches. If your doctor diagnoses the flu, please report it to the school office. Remember, if your student gets on an antiviral medication soon enough it can shorten the duration and lesson the severity of the flu.
