WSU Badges for high school students- Before school adjourns for summer, I wanted to make sure you were aware of a relatively new program at WSU designed for high school students. Last fall, WSU launched two online library research Badge courses. Approximately 265 high school students throughout the state enrolled in one or both courses. Those students who successfully completed the course work earned 0.5 undergraduate credit hours per badge. This credit is now part of their official transcript at WSU. In addition, they earned a digital badge that they can display on their social media accounts. All students who enrolled received a scholarship that covered their application fee and all tuition. Courses are designed so that no textbook purchase is required. Based on the success of the first two badges, we have expanded the number of badge offerings for fall 2018. The new badge courses are designed to prepare high school students for college success and introduce them to possible career paths. Once again, WSU will be offering scholarships to cover the application fee and tuition costs of one badge course for up to 300 high school students who apply and enroll by September 14.
