Intro to woodworking

This class is centered around learning the basics of woodworking with great emphasis of the proper safe use of machines and practice.

Project grading rubric

All safety equipment will be provided to students, except shoes, but they may obtain their own if they wish. The safety items needed for the class are:

Safety glasses (no tinted lens)

Hearing protection (the lab has ear muffs, but plugs will also work)

Closed toe shoes (students will not be provided with shoes but no student may work without them. No sandals, flip-flops, slides, or sock-like shoes)

All students will build a project.  The project will be the same for each student.  The project will be made throughout the semester and will be completed by the end of the semester.  All solid lumber needed for projects will be supplied by the school, but other arrangments can be made by the student to obtain the needed lumber.  Prior teacher approval must be obtained.  All project fees and class fees must be paid before the project will be released to the student. 

The following is a list of the assignments done in the first five to six weeks of class before the lab work starts:

Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4. These are handouts copied from a workbook.

Handtool test Test is identification of tools from a tool word list. 

Measuring Exercises page 1, page 2.  This is usually an in class assignment worked with instructor help as needed.

Bill of Material This is usually given as a completion points quiz.

Safety test Must be passed with 100% or instructor approval.

Additional assignments may be given throughout the semester, on days of my absence, and will be various chapters from the textbook workbook.
